     Biography

Robert J.M. Scranton was born April 14, 1953 in Cairo, Illinois.  He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Kentucky in 1994 with a BS in Accounting with High Distinction and Business and Economics Departmental Honors. While at the University of Kentucky, Robert was a member of the UK Arthur Andersen Tax Challenge team that won the regional competition and advanced to the national level. As a participant in the Arthur Andersen Tax Challenge, Robert was awarded a full academic scholarship to the University of Denver Graduate Tax Program in Denver, Colorado. After graduating from the Tax Program, he received his law degree from the University of Denver College of Law in 1998.  Robert was awarded the Outstanding Student Award, Corporate Internship Program for developing a Corporate Counsel Intranet which was adopted by as "Best Practice" by Norwest Banks Legal Department. While at the College of Law, Robert served as a research assistant for Professors Edward Roche, Sheila Hyatt and Robert Hardaway.  Robert contributed to and edited several texts and law review articles, including Cathy S. Krendl, Colorado Methods of Practice (West 1996), Robert M. Hardaway, Preventive Law (Anderson 1997) and Colorado Evidence 1997/1998 Courtroom Manual (Anderson 1998), and Sheila K. Hyatt, Colorado Civil Rules Annotated (1998).  Robert created and serves as the site coordinator for the Internet website Taxlinks.com (www.taxlinks.com), a research site devoted to legal research in the area of taxation.  Taxlinks.com was named by Law Office Computing Magazine as one of the 1999 Top 50 Websites for Legal Research.  Robert is also a teaching assistant in the Graduate Tax Program at the University of Denver and created the website www.graduatetax.com as a teaching aid for the students in his class.  Robert also created the Colorado Springs Estate Planning Council's website (www.cosepc.org).  Robert's practice concentrates on the areas of Taxation, Corporate and Entity Formation and related intellectual property issues and Estate Planning.  Robert is a member of the Colorado Bar Association, the El Paso County Bar Association and the Ben Wendleken Inn of Court.  Robert is licensed to practice law in the State of Colorado and is admitted to the Federal District Court for the State of Colorado and the United States Tax Court.  Robert is also a member of the Colorado Springs Estate Planning Council.  Robert is also a past Vice-Chair and Chair (2004 & 2005) of the Probate Section of the El Paso County Bar Association.  Robert is also the past Chair (2003, 2004 & 2005) for the El Paso County Bar Association's Senior Law Day, an annual outreach event to the Seniors of Colorado Springs providing legal information in an all day seminar held at the Colorado Springs Senior Center.
